Creating a blended learning strategy for Specsavers

Learn how Digits were able to convert face-to-face training modules into dynamic eLearning modules for Specsavers.


Specsavers Optical Group Ltd is an optical retail chain, operating globally, which offers optician services, along with eyeglasses, contact lenses and hearing aids.

Specsavers sought an eLearning provider to assist their L&D team to convert a number of their current face to face training modules into digital learning, as part of their strategy to migrate to a blended learning strategy. This training would be delivered to all colleagues in store.

Digits were chosen from a number of suppliers shortlisted by Specsavers, who felt that our team approach would complement their existing in-house capabilities.

The modules needed to provide information and training to Specsavers’ employees – using an engaging and interactive approach.

Specsavers required a rapid authoring approach to meet their internal training commitments, with some modules required for delivery from script to store in a matter of 2 – 3 weeks.

The Solution

We have worked closely with Specsavers to ensure that the modules that we have produced match the message and tone provided in the classroom; keeping it consistent and complimentary with similar training, that will continue to be delivered in a classroom environment.

So far, we have worked together on range of modules including Specsavers Offers, Lens Options, their Hear Care products and an animated Coaching Skills module.

The training aims to provide full awareness and understanding of the Specsavers offering, reduce requirements for face to face training and enable reporting of all staff that have completed training via the company’s LMS.

Hearcare Essentials landed extremely well with our store colleagues and they engaged with the content and this drove them to complete further online learning on our LMS. This also saved our store Partners 90% on their previous training budget and improved the consistency of the learning.

The benefit for our customers is that we now have more colleagues on the shop floor who are able to have great informed conversations about our hearcare offering. This has driven sales, awareness and also increased customer satisfaction in our stores.

These new modules consistently rank among the highest in terms of completions and we’re looking to add to these with a more advanced course later in the year.”
