eLearning to support efficient learning for retail giant Ikea


Our relationship with IKEA, over the past few years, has spanned many aspects of the organisation, working directly with the retail group in Sweden, Inter IKEA Systems B.V. in the Netherlands and the training departments for IKEA UK. We work with a primary focus on eLearning, but have also worked on Internet and Intranet projects, provision of hosting services, as well as a number of application developments.

We have worked closely with Inter IKEA Systems B.V., as part of the IKEA Business College in the Netherlands, to implement a new eLearning strategy for the group’s franchise partners. This involved developing courseware alongside other suppliers and implementing a pilot of Learning Manager – Release 1.0 to provide delivery and administration of both online and classroom training.

We subsequently became involved in a pilot programme with IKEA UK, developing a number of eLearning courses, which were delivered via our hosted Learning Manager – Release 2.0.

Working with a focus group of L&D specialists within IKEA, the latest Learning Manager has been customised to match IKEA terminology and working practices. Some new features within the current iteration of the LMS, have been developed as a direct response to suggestions and feedback from IKEA, such as varying degrees of user management to a store level, as well as customisation of the “L&D Plans” to cater for both a ”Competency Framework” approach to training and an individual tailored career path.

  • Powerful real-time reporting, directly exporting to Microsoft Excel
  • Ongoing user support to the training managers, alongside ad hoc requirements
